How can I tell if my inquiry is authentic?
Together, these signs show genuine interest, and they’re exactly what you’d expect from someone investing in such an important purchase.
They’ve Read Your Listing
Genuine buyers reference details from your post (designer, style, size, condition). They may double-check things like whether the dress has been altered or if accessories are included.
They Ask Specific Questions
Expect questions like:
- “Can you confirm the waist measurement?”
- “Were the sleeves altered?”
- “Does the gown have a bustle?”
"Are there any stains or damage?"
Questions like this show they are seriously considering fit and usability. Many will compare your measurements with their own or with a bridal size chart. They may ask whether the gown can be let out, taken in, or if there’s fabric allowance.
They Request More Photos
Authentic buyers often want to see current pictures of your dress - we encourage buyers to ask for these to confirm the condition, style, and color of the item they are buying.
They Communicate Clearly and Consistently
Real buyers will stay in the marketplace message system. They respond to your answers thoughtfully and don’t rush you into skipping steps.
They Follow Our Processes
When ready, they complete checkout through Nearly Newlywed without asking for exceptions. They may ask you what happens next, but they won't insist on paying outside of our secure system.
How to Spot a Fake Inquiry
Knowledge is the best protection. Scam attempts are common in the online world and are becoming more sophisticated. If you know what to expect, you will be able to sell safely.
