What's the best way to ship a wedding dress?
There is no need to know the shipping address or to calculate shipping charges - NN takes care of the logistics and provides a pre-paid UPS shipping label (insurance included for shipments originating from within the US).
- Find the Right Box
- Do not ship the dress in a preservation box - instead, use a sturdy corrugated cardboard box that you can find on Amazon, Staples, a moving supplies store, or at your local USPS/UPS store for minimal cost (typically under $5). Consider reaching out to your local bridal shops, they may have a box you can pick up from them.
Get a box that is just big enough, not too big, to prevent damage during transit!
Recommended Box Sizes: L: 18 x W: 16 x H: 9 L: 30 x W: 20 x H: 8 L: 24 x W: 16 x H: 6
- Use a bathroom scale to get the total weight of the packaged dress.
Cover Up Details & Embellishments
If you have it on hand, use acid-free tissue paper or muslin cloth between layers to protect embellishments or beading from snagging on other parts of the dress when you fold it.
Fold It
Remove any jewelry that you are wearing that may catch on the dress. Fold it; bodice to the hem. This should allow it to fit nicely in the box.
Protect The Dress
Use an UNSCENTED plastic to cover it so that if the box gets wet or damaged during transit, the dress won't be damaged. A great way to do this is to use the plastic cover your duvet cover came in or just a fresh, clear, large-sized unscented recycling bag. If your box is damaged like this, dirt and moisture are not likely to damage your item:
Add a Nice Note
Consider writing a lovely short note to your buyer telling her about the dress, your big day, or thanking her for her purchase💜.
- Tape it Well, Label it, & Drop it Off
- Print off the prepaid shipping label we provided when your dress sold. If you are shipping internationally, a pre-filled commercial invoice will also be provided (ensure all 3 copies are provided to the carrier when you drop it off).
- Seal the flaps and seams with strong mailing tape that is at least 2” wide.
- Place the shipping label on top, and take care to avoid putting the label over a seam/closure or on top of the tape. You want the label to be clearly visible at all times.
- Pro-Tip: put a duplicate label inside the box so that if the label gets ripped off at any point during shipping, they can find the original owner (and recipient) quickly.
- Drop it off at your nearest UPS location!
Remember - do not ship in a preservation box. You risk it being damaged in transit or when it is opened by the buyer, and will not be compensated for this by NN, UPS, or the buyer.
