Acceptable Wear & Tear
Even a brand-new item may show gentle signs of being handled. When a dress is tried on or packaged/unpackaged to ship, it is reasonable to expect some signs of acceptable wear during these actions.
Within reason, NN considers acceptable signs of wear to be small, both in size and amount, and easily remedied. This means that they can be easily cleaned or brushed off, taken off with a lint roller, trimmed with scissors, spot cleaned, or sewn back on (etc).
- loose threads, bra cups, or bodice lining
- internal marks on the lining or underlayers
- marks from touching other objects or the floor
- pet fur, dust, loose fibers
- marks inside the neckline or straps from makeup or self-tanner (not visible from the outside)
- missing or loosened buttons, button loops, beads, or gems
Concerns of this nature will be assessed on an individual basis by our experienced bridal team.
Expect Notable Signs of Wear with Sample Gowns
A sample wedding dress is typically a well-loved floor model. Bridal salons and boutiques keep at least one sample of each dress style they sell for brides to try on in-store.
It is common for sample dresses to have imperfections or blemishes from being tried on multiple times - some salons spot clean and repair them before selling, but not always.
Always ask for current pictures of the dress to verify the condition. It may look different from the listing, due to being continuously tried on.
Samples can show obvious wear in places such as:
- Top of the zipper where you hold it closed to zip the gown
- Neckline and underarms from things like makeup and lotion
- Grey hemline from touching the ground as brides walk around
- Discoloration on straps from hangers and being tried on
- Button loops from being buttoned and unbuttoned repeatedly
