Inspect the Listing Thoroughly & Ask Questions

Review the photos, measurements, alterations done, and description and message the seller to confirm:

1. Condition

   Any stains, missing beading, or damage like tears or pulls?

2. Color

   If they only have model pictures, you'll want to confirm the color is what you are expecting.

3. Alterations

   Was the dress shortened? Was it taken in or let out? Even if it is new, confirm it was not altered.

4. Seller height WITH shoes

   Ask the seller to confirm her height in the dress, including the heel height that she wore.

Have your bust, waist, hips, and length measured accurately to compare them with the dress's sizing. Wedding dress sizing varies greatly from street size and even between designers and styles.

Plan for Alterations: It’s rare for a dress to fit perfectly off the rack or from the previous brides' alterations. Budget for tailoring to get the perfect fit.

New Wedding Dress

Ordered in the bride's desired size but never worn to an event; may have had alterations or been tried on. Ask if it’s 100% unaltered and new.

Sample Wedding Dress

Floor model used for try-ons in bridal salons; sold at reduced prices when replaced by new samples. Likely to have imperfections—request current photos to verify condition.

Used/PreOwned Wedding Dress

Worn for an event or picture session; may have alterations and may or may not have been cleaned. Ask for current photos to confirm the condition, especially if preserved in a sealed box.
